Short Story - 1107 Words

Grey dust clouds filled the air, mixing with puffs of blue, purple and red particles already circling the roof until the dull colour was drowned out by the radiant, distracting from the dirt and mess that cluttered the floor, cluttered the desks, cluttered the walls. Alone, a boy sat, hunched over the desk as he clutched the needles to weave one thread with another, his tongue sticking out as he created four thinned ovals to connect to a wider one, mimicking the vaguely human-shaped dolls at various states of completion and quality that were scattered around the desk. Dark circles contradicted his otherwise ghostly pale skin, dull blue eyes squinted to ensure every minor detail of the thread was in it’s perfect place. The door swung†¦show more content†¦As he sowed the heart over the top, Cedric rose to his feet, clearing his throat as he began to pace. â€Å"I meet with the king’s officials two days from now, when the sun is high. They believe I will be joining their forces and handing my powers over to them. You remember what to do?† Cedric inquired, turning his head to look at Castor alongside his question, the younger boy quickly lifting his head up to look and give him a nod. â€Å"Good. Stay out of sight, Castor. If any of the officials see you, they will sense the magic. I am not responsible if you act a fool.† â€Å"Of course, Master,† Castor gave a subtle nod, finishing the last thread and carefully using his teeth to pull it apart from the rest of the roll, pushing the rejects into one pile before sitting the final piece against the back of the desk, breathing out slowly as he admired the creation. Smiling softly, he turned, ready to speak again to his mentor, only to find he faced thin air. Silence. No sign that he had been speaking to anybody but himself. With a small exhale, Castor turned to lean back against his chair, staring down at the doll that sat in front of him, it’s stitched eyes returning the blank gaze.
